First Kids WFD Wrap-up

What an amazing afternoon yesterday--our first Worry-Free Dinners event for KIDS!

One aspect, among many, that I value about these Worry-Free Dinners events is that we all come together, virtual strangers, with one thing in common, and leave friends, having laughed, eaten and shared worry-free.

Lovely assistant Ami overhead a mom say to her little one: “Everything on the table is safe for you to eat.”

Her child repeated in wonder: “Everything is safe”.

Wow. It was true and I’m kvelling to be a part of it all.

A heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Blue Smoke: Lissa, events manager; Nicholas, general manager; Sous Chef Alex; and our server Steve all of whom ensured that this event was delicious and Worry-Free. You guys rocked!

And a thank you too, to all of the WFD members--what a fun party!

Here are some pictures. Our lunch was gluten-free, peanut-free, tree-nut free, fish-free and dairy-free and oh-my-goodness delicious!

What a fun event!!! We all had a great time-- loved all the food, but I think the company was even better! Cannot wait for the next WFD event!

Lexi is still talking about how awesome those ribs were ... and what a great time she had! She is definitely a member (perhaps president) of the Sloane Miller Fan Club!!!! We loved meeting Laura from Cherrybrook Kitchens, too - she was so friendly and generous with all the freebies. I am ordering the choc chip muffin mix from the CBK website (evidently one of the yummiest products, but hard to find now in stores).

We can't wait for the next Kids WFD!!

WOW. Read about this on CNN.com. Can't wait till you get one organized for Philadelphia. I have a 3 year old who has never been out to dinner due to his allergies. Kudos

How I wish were in the NYC!!

I seriously cried at the statement of that sweet child - such a simple thing, having "safe" food.

And Cherrybrook Kitchens totally rocks!

Em - mom to one awesome little guy, who just happens to not be able to eat whey, egg whites and peanuts

I'm still thinking about how delicious the ribs and everything else was! The Cherrybrook Farms brownies were sinful! Thanks Sloane. Can't wait to do it again.

WFD is such a great concept - well done. Let me know if you think it will come to Raleigh - I can connect you with NCFACES (North Carolina Food Allergic Children Excelling Safely) as I am sure they would love to hear about this!!

I am somewhat surprised to read other comments about children that have *never* been out to eat before though - really? My kids are peanut, tree nut, egg and milk allergic (anaphylactic) between the two of them, and we've been able to find excellent restaurant service both here in Raleigh as well as many other states and Canada. Are the restuarants just not willing to work with you?

I'd love to help you if I can - with places that have embraced and supported our situation. We eat out all the time and the kids love it!

It really was a little bit of heaven on earth. Kudos to Blue Smoke and Cherrybrook Kitchens for making us feel so well-cared for and to Sloane for thinking of the kids. It was magical.
